My Favorite iPhone apps so far

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Its been a week I am playing with my iPhone. Installing new apps (mostly free) and testing how they work. So far I have found few amazing apps which which use iPhone’s full potential.
Palringo
1. Palringo Instant Messanger: Lets you login into yahoo, gtalk, msn, aim, ichat and many more IM services. One can send voice messages, pictures and text. Interface is pretty cool and intuitive.

Pad
2. PAD: Excessive use of mouse can lead to Carpal tunnel syndrome, using a trackpad instead of mouse helps a bit. Pad lets you use your iPhone as trackpad. The app is still far from perfection but basic mouse functions like click, double click, scrolling, right click work really well. Drag function is still buggy, but overall its a good app for $0.99. And yes, You can also use it as keyboard!

Pad
3.Tris: I generally do not like computer games, but once in while I play some simple game. Tris is a classic falling block game. I get hooked to it once in while and cant manage to stop playing it. So far my highest score is 3500. It uses touch gestures nicely.

Wordpress
4.Wordpress: They made it simple and easy. I like it for its simplicity.

Wordpress
5. Mocha VNC Lite: There are some cool apps which use wifi for remotely accessing your computer thru SSH, or controlling you iTunes and so on. Mocha VNC lets you control your full desktop. Over wifi its pretty fast. Mouse functions are still lil buggy. But zoom and other features are pretty good.

Copy Paste framework released for iPhone

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

OpenClip is a copy-paste framework which can be used by iPhone developers to integrate Copy-Paste functionality in thier app. Its a open source not for profit project. The good thing about copy-paste is, it doesnt violet Apple’s developer agreement. Typically on iPhone no two apps can run simultenously. Due to the sandbox effect when one application pastes something on clipboard and quits, the clipboard data is also vanished with closing of the app, but openclip developers have found a way to use shared space of iPhone which can be used by any application and need to worry about loosing data pasted on it.

Developers can checkout the sourcode from thier subversion repository (http://www.openclip.org/svn/openclip/) and start integrating this great feature into thier app.
